Treating lows

Today’s topic for Diabetes Blog Week is about your favorite treatment for low blood sugars. Sadly, my absolute favorite low treatment is no longer being made! I freaking loved BD glucose tabs. They were undoubtedly the most delicious glucose tabs! They tasted like the stick part of a Fun Dip! But just like my beloved Nite Bites, they have been discontinued.

The best part of these tabs was that they could slide right into your pocket, unlike the only “portable” tabs available now. They fit into a tiny little purse or pocket. And they were exactly 15 carbs. Because I have always followed the “rule of 15” and because I’m anal retentive when it comes to diabetes, it irritates me a little that the only tabs available now are 4 grams per tab, and therefore I can’t get exactly 15 grams. Yes, I am weird.

As you can see, this has been bothering me for quite awhile. So, needless to say, I was very excited at my last appointment with my old endocrinologist when I saw a huge stack “BD Getting Started Take Home Kits.” They have sleeves of BD tabs in them! I took as many of these big boxes as I could take. Unfortunately that was only 5, and each one only has 2 sleeves. I am so excited that I at least have some of these, and I’m saving for a time when I think it will be perfect to use. them. Again, I’m weird.

It’s weird that there aren’t other 15g tablets…another example of the pharm companies not talking to enough diabetics?

It has always bothered me that glucose tab’s are 4g each. You’re not weird. Or at least you’re not weird alone. 🙂

Oh, I miss the BD glucose tabs so much. I have one sleeve left, and I’m saving it for a special occasion 😉

And OMG, my OCD HATES that these other tabs have 4g carbs each. The rule of 15 is one of the only d-rules that I follow religiously. I guess this is why I stick to the Juicy Juice boxes – 15g of carbs per box.

Oh my goodness, I haven’t seen these in years!! I miss them, too, they were perfect! Especially because they don’t have that obviously fake flavor taste of the newer glucose tabs. I’m so jealous you got your hands on some! 😛

First off your description of what those taste like is perfect. I loved Fun Dip but would always chichi the stick! YUCK! LOL

Second, isn’t is funny that those old tabs were exactly 15 grams and we were told to use 15 grams to treat? Makes you wonder if BD had any say in that whole take 15, wait 15. I dunno seems fishy. And why have no other companies made tabs that are at least divisible by 15? hmm???

I want some of these magical 15g tabs. I do not like the Dex4 ones either. Why would they make them with such small glucose content with EVERYONE knows the 15g rule!? Sometimes diabetes can be frustrating simply because the people that are “in charge” or the providers of the things we need to stay alive are not diabetic themselves. Here’s an idea Glucose manufacturing reps: do some study groups! Everyone else is doing it.

This exactly!! Haha! You’re not alone.

    I would love a 15g tab….chewing 1 would sure beat chewing 4-5.

  9. Crystal says:

Not weird. I grew up on those BD tabs, the 15g count was Perfect. And they did taste like fun dip! Perfect description. They always gave me a headache though. I don’t miss them, or any glucose tab for that matter. I have them, just not my first choice.

Wait, they were discontinued, but you found them in a kit? Are they really old, or just made for these kits now?

I love this “slide in your pocket” concept! Why on earth doesn’t someone make something slidable these days??
